Obituary of Thomas W. Chuba

Former longtime Grosse Pointe resident Thomas W. Chuba died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 while visiting family and friends in Michigan. He resided in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Detroit on October 23, 1929 to Paul and Mildred Chuba and graduated from De La Salle High School and University of Detroit. In 1955 he married Nancy S. Kehoe and together they raised their two children. Mr. Chuba began his career at J.L. Hudson Co. in Detroit where he remained for 25 years working his way up from electrician to building manager. He continued his career in property management with Lambrecht Realty and Kojaian Properties until retirement. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed winters teaching his children to ice skate and ski. Summers were spent boating with his family on Lake St. Clair and excursions throughout Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, along with time with family and friends at the Detroit Yacht Club and Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. In later years he was a member of the Grosse Pointe Senior Men's Club, The Men's Club and other organizations at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota. He was an avid bridge player and played regularly with his friends at Turtle Bay where he resided. Mr. Chuba is survived by his brother Paul, sister Kay LaHaye along with his son Thomas (Dawn) Chuba and daughter Kathleen (Gary) Marowske and grandchildren Kerri (Michael) Manos, Troy Marowske and Randy and Kellie Chuba. He was predeceased by his parents and wife of 54 years. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday September 5, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul on the Lake, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms. Family visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. A second memorial will be held October 25, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota, Florida In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: St. Vincent de Paul Society or The Men of St. Thomas More and sent to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota, FL 34231
