Obituary of Robert J. Cassady
ROBERT J. "Jack" CASSADY Age 87. May 25, 2008. Beloved husband for 65 years of Frances. Loving son of Kenneth (Kathleen Needham), Dennis (Cheryl), and Kevin (Suzanne). Caring grandfather of Dennis "D.J." Cassady, Lauren Lowrie, and Colleen and Erin Cassady. Six great-grandchildren include Ava, Ali, Daniel, Tanner, Julia and Brianna. Jack was born in Windsor, Ontario on June 17, 1920, the only child of Edward and Jane Baker Cassady. He was raised in Windsor and spent his summers on the family farms near Paris, Ontario. In 1941 Jack joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). The next year he was stationed in Winnipeg where he met and married Frances Weiss. The next three years he was in Europe assigned as an RCAF aircraft mechanic reaching the rank of corporal. After the war Jack and Fran lived in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and resettled in Windsor in 1950. In 1951 Jack was awarded a B.S. in Chemistry from Assumption College (now the University of Windsor). In 1953 he joined Ford Motor Company in Highland Park and in 1955 moved his family of five to Detroit. In 1960 Jack became a U.S. citizen. Jack retired from Ford (Body Engineering in Dearborn) in 1980. He and Fran enjoyed an active and rewarding retirement indulging in travel, reading, movies, theatre, and most of all, being with family. Contributions can be made in Jack's name to the Salvation Army. A service of remembrance and celebration of his life will be held in June. A Memorial Service will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Thursday, June 26th at 7 PM. Visitation from 6 until 9 PM.
