Obituary of Rodgerick Keith Philson II

On February 24, 1979, in Detroit, Michigan, God blessed Linda Joy Philson and Rodgerick Keith Philson, Sr., with a beautiful and happy baby boy Rodgerick Keith Philson II. They raised him to be courageous, caring, and strong. He became the ideal big brother to his little sister Autumn. In 3rd grade, Rodgerick attended Immaculate Heart of Mary where he met his future wife, Jayda Sanford. They shared their first kiss at a 6th-grade party, but they lost touch soon after when he left Immaculate Heart of Mary to attend Presentation Our Lady of Victory. He received his high school diploma from Southfield High. One fateful day, Rodgerick's good friend Mike invited him to go to the Blue Martini night club in Birmingham, MI. He wasn't having a great night that night, but just as he was about to walk out the door, he once again saw his "beautiful chocolate princess" (as he liked to call her) Jayda. From then on, they were inseparable. Rodgerick and Jayda got married on June 1, 2008. Rodgerick and Jayda were married for 8 years. They were the love of each other's lives. They built a home together, traveled together, and had 3 beautiful children together Jaxon Reid (6), Jett Roman (2), and Riley Joy (11 months). All of the children have taken on some of Rodgerick's characteristics. Jaxon has his talkative nature, Jett has his silly side, and Riley looks just like him. Rodgerick worked at Home Depot for 16 years and his last position was Freight Team Associate. He was on the fast track for a promotion called the Stars Program. He also had a passion for collecting firearms, buying and fixing up cars, and riding on his bumblebee-yellow Yamaha motorcycle. On Monday, October 24, 2016, while surrounded by family and friends, God decided that it was time for Rodgerick to come home. For everyone there, it was the hardest day of their lives. Prayers filled the room as memories of Rodgerick, of his love and friendship, touched each and every one of them. Rodgerick leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, father, sister, nephew, Javon Eurns, grandmother, Royetta Phillips, aunt, Dawn Phillips (Jamil), uncles Charles Harvey (Donna) and Gary Harvey (Michelle), his wife, 3 children, and a host of cousins. Everyone has promised to share the life of Rodgerick Keith Philson II with his children and to continually remind them what a wonderful man he was. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 5 at the Detroit Unity Temple, 17505 2nd Ave., Detroit, MI 48203. 10:30AM family hour until time of service at 11AM.
