Obituary of Marion Ann LoPrete

Marion A. (Garry) LoPrete died peacefully on October 1st after living many years with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James H., four children, James S., Kimberly A., Kent G. (Ruth), Robert D. (David), and five Grandchildren James E., Lauren E., Matthew G., Allison R., and Kristen A. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Bishop Edwin R. and Edith H Garrison, and her sister, Helen G Kauffmann. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and attended the Merrill Palmer Institute. She worked as a field director for the Camp Fire Girls and on the staff of Methodist Children's Home Society where she met Jim. After the birth of their first born, she became a full time mother nurturing their four children as well as being involved in various community activities. She was a member of the Orchard Lake Community Church, Presbyterian, a trustee of the Louis and Nellie Sieg Foundation, The Frank G. and Gertrude Dunlap Foundation, President of the Pi Beta Phi Alumni club and a member of the Countryside Improvement Association. She was a moving force in the organization of the cooperative nursery school at Westminster Church of Detroit and served as one of its early presidents. A life well spent helping others. Over the years she enjoyed traveling with Jim to various regions of the world and hosting foreign students in exchange programs involving their children. A memorial service will be held at a future date. The family suggest memorial contributions to either the Lourdes Senior Community Center, Alzheimer unit or the Marion Garrison LoPrete Scholarship fund at Ohio Wesleyan University.
