Obituary of Jacqueline Merritt Matthews
Jacqueline Merritt Matthews, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Clinton Township on October 17, 2016. She was born on June 13, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Earl and Jacqueline (Blood) Merritt. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Christian F. Matthews, Jr., M.D., and her sisters Margaret (Peggy), Patricia and Phyllis. She is survived by her children Richard (Pam Gordon) Matthews, Christian (Patti) F. Matthews, III, and Ann (David) Brewer; her grandchildren, Harrison, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Douglas, Charlie (Melanie), Hayley (Rob), Karin (Tony), Andrew, Noel (Breton) and Jaclyn and her great grandchildren, Calvin, Casper, Cecelia, Shelby, Elena, August and Ezra, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews all of whom she dearly loved. Jacqueline and her husband raised their family in Mt. Clemens. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan where she majored in Psychology. Jacqueline was an avid golfer, genealogist, and a gracious hostess who had a fondness for nature and provided many hours of volunteer service and fun with her friends in the greater Mt. Clemens community and the community in Rondeau Park, Ontario, where she presided over many festivities at the family's summer cottage. She was full of love for her family and friends, grit and determination, and she will be missed.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11:00 am. at Grace Episcopal Church, 115 South Main St., Mt. Clemens. The family will greet friends on Friday from 10:30 am. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jacqueline's name to Grace Episcopal Church.
