Obituary of Fritz Heinz Tischer
Fritz Heinz Tischer, of Waterford, passed away quietly, in his sleep, February 13, 2014, after several years of declining health. He was 85.
A wonderfully unique person, he leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Mary; sons Frederick (Kathy) and karl; grandchildren Sierra, Sebastian, Marcus, Kennedi and Parker.
He was born in Germany on December 28, 1928. He lived in Berlin during the American bombing of WWII, and was in a POW camp for a short time at the end of the war. He worked for the American armed forces in Germany and then, on a lark, joined the French Foreign Legion in 1949. He served in North Africa and Indo-china until 1951, when he returned to his family in Berlin. He married Eva Bertram and worked for German customs. Fritz came to the United States in 1961. He was sponsored by American Service man, Fred Pyle of Ferndale, MI. He and Eva were divorced. Fritz married Mary Knowles in 1970, raised their 2 boys and became U S citizens. Fritz owned and operated Tower Cleaners in Waterford, Michigan, until his retirement. He then became the caretaker at Hess-Hathaway farm for a short time.
