Obituary of William E. Dowell
William E. Dowell, 105, of Chesterfield Township, Mich., died at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008. He was born Feb. 9, 1903, in the Town of La Crosse, Wis., to the late Edward and Rose Dowell. In 1928, William hopped a freight train to Detroit. On Dec. 23, 1930 he was united in marriage to Mary Kenmuir in Toledo, Oh. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years; brothers Roy and Lester Dowell and Walter Martin; and grand daughter Robin Sawicki. He is survived by his children, Edward (Shirley) Dowell, Robert (Marge) Dowell; grand children, Rick (Lois) Dowell, Cherie (Jerry) Ferguson, Paul Dowell, Brian (Kelly) Dowell and Bill (Rene) Dowell; great grand children Jennifer Ruth, Christopher Sawicki, Jennifer (Steve) Salowitz, Joel Ferguson, Ryan Dowell, Adam Dowell, Heather Dowell, Brantley Dowell, and Craig Ferguson; five great great grand children; and one brother Harry Martin. He worked several jobs, including helping build the original Olympia Stadium in Detroit, before retiring from Budd Company in 1966. William and Mary moved to Cape Coral, Fla., in 1968. He was a member of the Executive Golf Club in Cape Coral for many years and had nine hole-in-ones. William traveled all over the world with his son Robert and daughter in law Marge even riding a camel in Egypt at the age of 96. At his request, cremation has taken place.
