Obituary of Lorraine Bernadette Butler
Lorraine Bernadette Butler (Stavros), October 20, 2013, at age 89. Born August 13, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, the elder of two daughters born to George and Bernadette (Lyons) Stavros. She graduated from Eastern HS in Detroit in January 1942, and married Frank Butler in April 1943. She enjoyed traveling with him stateside during this training, and remained with him until he was deployed overseas. Their only child was born in March 1945 while her husband was in the European Theater. She and her family lived in Detroit, East Detroit, and Warren. She worked briefly in retail, but her career was spent in public relations and journalism, as manager of the Gloster Publicity Agency, as editor of the Detroit edition of Where magazine, and she retired as the women's editor of the Macomb Daily. She enjoyed doing the daily NY Times crossword puzzles, reading, and watching Michigan football, but most of all the company of her family, who loved her and depended on her for strength, wisdom, and love. She will be missed by all who loved her. Preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 68 years; survived by sister Diane MacKay; several in-laws, nieces and nephews; her devoted son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Dorothy; and her grandchildren Suzanne and Robert. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
