What I remember most about Freida are her elegance and graciousness as a hostess. I can recall watching the fireworks one year from her apartment by the river with a gregarious group of her friends and relatives. She had something interesting to talk about with everyone and had taken pains to be sure there would be several dishes to accommodate my vegetarianism. Everything at the gathering was served just so in the exactly appropriate dish. I have also benefited even more directly from Freida's generosity. Her move from the aforementioned apartment coincided perfectly with my move back to the U.S. from Germany and I was fortunate to inherit a great slew of sheets, towels, dishes and silverware. I truly felt I'd hit the struggling college students' jackpot and even now I am reminded of Freida each time I use one of the towels or sets of sheets that she handed down to me.
I fondly remember Mrs. Greene. As a 12-16 year old when my father Roman Gribbs and her husband Walter worked for the city of Detroit. She made a huge impression on me, she was a strong female role model, always gracious, pleasant and smart. I and this world are better because of her. Carla Gribbs
I have nothing but fond and loving memories of Aunt Frieda and Uncle Walter. Aunt Frieda and her wonderful siblings accepted me in the family with love and open arms. I will be grateful forever.. May God continue to bless the remarkable Greene family.
I know of Frieda only through knowing Colleen and Trey (Walter), so it is wonderful to read of her legacy in the world and in her children. As shared by Gene Shelton, may the blessings continue to shower on the Greene family and all they touch in service to others.
