Obituary of Eleanor S Matte
Eleanor S. Matte (nee Stevens), September 11, 2013. She was born October 5, 1924 in Chambers County, Alabama. Eleanor attended Massey Draughan College in Montgomery, Alabama. During WWII, she worked for the War Department at the Pentagon. In 1944, she married Frank Matte. After the war she worked at Cornell University while her husband got his Mechanical Engineering degree. She then worked as secretary to the Dean of Students at Beaver college. Her son Jeff was born in 1956. Eleanor was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Ingleside Duplicate Bridge Club. She enjoyed gardening, theatre, bridge and tennis. She started a business, making purses, doing all of the sewing herself. Eleanor worked at the North Congregational Church as a part time secretary for 26 years where she also served on the Board of Deaconesses, the Personnel Committee and as a Church School Teacher. She is survived by her son Jeffrey S. Matte and a sister, Margie Hinkle of Alabama.
