Dear Nita and family, Our sincere condolences on the loss of George. It is difficult enough to lose a loved one but the Christmas season seems to intense the sorrow. Thank God you have the wonderful memories to call on. Jeff, you have given us the long lost cousins, a TREASURE WE THOUGHT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN!We will be forever grateful for that. The first time I saw your Dad I felt like it was a vision of my own Dad, Alex in later years, who passed when I was only 11 years old. The Marentette traits were sure there in George. Ted and I are planning on attending the memorial service on Jan 8th along with Gerry Fader. Love to you all, Gayle Broad

As my 8th grade football coach Mr. Marentette was the first coach to tell me I had ability that I wasn't using fully and pushed me to reach my potential. Between Mr. Marentette, Mr. Lindensmith, Mr. Ward, Mr. Gardiner, Mr. Cooper, Mr VanOvermeer, Mr. Pringle, Mr. Motz, and the rest of that great teaching staff at Grant Jr. High School, I got the foundation of an education that turned the son of two tenth grade drop-outs (who were great parents but didn't know how many doors an education opened)into a future teacher, coach, attorney, human resources director, superintendent and college professor. I only hope that someday the kids that I have taught and coached remember the valuable lessons I learned from George Marentette and passed forward to unseen future generations. He was an outstanding man.

George and I started our teaching careers about the same time back in the 1950's at Grant Jr. J.S. in East Detroit(now Eastpointe) I remember him for his love of life, good humor, integrity and as a friend during those years at Grant. I also remember that, like me, he and Nita checked the death notices in the paper every day....and it was a good day he said, when his wasn't there. Sadly, today it was there. Don and I wish his wife and family our deepest sympathy. I was so happy a few years ago when he told me how he met all these cousins he didn't know he had.....and to walk into a room where he saw people who even resembled him. I am so glad he made these new connections!

As a family, we were lucky enough to meet George & Nita through Jeff & Sarah, and felt like family almost immediately. What fun and engaging parentsfriends to spend time with! We were all stunned and saddened to hear of George's passing. I'm happy every time I think of his conversations, (especially Lions football), and of the deserved rewards he is receiving now. He truly was a special person, and will be missed.

George & Nita were two of the first people I got to know in 1963, and a wonderful friendship developed. I have very fond memories of their family coming to Horsehead Lake, and especially our annual boat trips where George & Nita were original crew members on our boat. My thoughts and prayers are with the Marentette family at this time. Love, Jeanne

It's hard to believe that we have known George for over 45 years. A wonderful educational cohort, fellow coach, stock club partner and true friend. Always the one willing to debate any issue worth talking about. He was without doubt always loyal to those people or ideals that held in high esteem. It would have been wonderful if his Lions could have rewarded him for his 50+ years of support. We will miss his sense of humor, especially during difficult and embarsssing moments. We are proud to have had George in our Bucket List of friends. We express our condolences to Nita, Denise, Greg, Jeff and all their family. Dan & Nancy Polzien

Our sincerest condolences to Nita,Denise, Jeff, and Greg and their families. We are long lost cousins who were reunited with George just 5 years ago, and regret not having him in our lives all those years until then. George took so graciously to his new cousins, and paricipated in a great cousin reunion at our home in Canada. Ronnie and I also experienced their tremendous hospitality in Florida. We'll always cherish those moments.
