Obituary of George L. Marentette
George L. Marentette, 82, of Chesterfield Twp, died Friday, December 21, 2012. George was born April 3rd, 1930 in Dearborn Mi the son of Leo and Gladys (Mosher) Marentette. He graduated from Melvindale High School and Eastern Michigan College with a degree in Education. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was employed by East Detroit Public Schools where he worked as a Guidance Counselor and Football Coach. During those 30 years, it was apparent, he had a sincere desire to have a positive impact and improve the lives of his students and athletes. He approached retirement with the same passion he did everything in his life, he enjoyed over 25 years of travel and leisure with his wife of 57 years, whom he cherished. He was a lifelong fan of all Detroit sports teams and enjoyed season tickets to the Detroit Lions and Eastern Michigan Football for over 50 years. He was always willing to engage in good conversation and debate, even occasionally conceding a point. He will be missed by everybody that knew him and the world is a better place as a result of the time he has spent here. Surviving are his wife Juanita (Stinson) whom he married on August 6th, 1955; children Gregory Marentette, Denise Shock (Larry), Jeffrey Marentette (Sarah). 5 Grand Children Michael Morrow, Kyle Morrow, Steven Morrow, Jordan Marentette, Jessica Marentette. His sister Lois (Marentette) Heeder and Cousin Jack Mosher (Bea). He was preceded in death by his Brother Norman Marentette and his brothers in law; Ronald and Eugene Stinson and Robert Heeder. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday January 8th, 2013 with a luncheon to follow at Grace United Methodist Church , 49655 Jefferson Ave, Chesterfield MI 48047. He has been cremated and will be interned at the Allen Park Presbyterian Church.
