Herb was my favorite cousin when I was 9-13. When he told me about the planets and the math formula for an ellipse I was very impressed. This sparked my interest in becoming an engineer. He was my confirmation sponsor. I recall his hand on my shoulder as I received the sacrament. I liked his jovial and matter of fact attitude. In the 60's, my Dad sent me a Letter to the Editor he wrote to the Detroit News, questioning New York Jet Joe Namath's Vietnam War draft deferment for bad knees. I have written a few OPed pieces and think of Herb when I do. I last saw him at the Willow Run AP during a 4 hour layover after my father's (his Uncle Frank's) death in May, 1993. He told he was writing and hoped to get a piece published in the New Yorker magazine. He said he was having a great time cooking in a restaurant. (His father had been head chef at the Detroit Women's City Club.) I wish I had kept in touch with him these last 20 years. God Bless Him and his Family,
