Obituary of Herbert Schneider

Herbert Schneider Age 77, of Detroit. Herbert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathryn, daughters Elizabeth Schneider (Eric Gordin) and Jennifer Stahl (Daniel) and grandchildren Max, Jacqueline, Nikolas and Emma. Herb was a voracious reader who had a wealth of knowledge of history, politics, Presidents and baseball. He was a dedicated New York Times puzzle master (always in ink). An avid sports fan, Herb was a loyal Tigers baseball fan. He will be remembered as an extremely charming and engaging man who was known as a great storyteller. Herb was a lifelong Detroit resident, graduating from Wayne State University with a degree in English. He was an Army Veteran, spending much of his time in France during the Korean conflict. Herb was a hard-working civil servant, spending 20 years with the Social Security Administration. After retiring as a Manager with Social Security, Herb pursued his passion for cooking by working at The Whitney in Detroit. Herb spent many of his last years as a dedicated Grandfather to his four grandchildren that he described as the "lights of his life." He adored the time he spent with them, telling stories of his own childhood, cooking favorite recipes, and sharing his love of the game of baseball. Many of us will remember Herb at a dinner table sharing one of his amazing meals and being entertained by his stories. Following his wishes, Herbert will be cremated.
