Some people come into our lives and quickly go...Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our soul, and We are Never the same.' - Flavia To Dr.Blase's family- I just learned of your dear husband and father's passing. I lost my own father June 27, 2009, and I know only too well the terrible loss and emptiness it leaves in your heart. Dr. Blase worked to help me understand myself and accept what life had dealt me in such a compassionate and patient way. I will be forever grateful for that. He believed in my art ability and brought Gretchen and Greg to my home for lessons to support their talent and my efforts to make a career in the art field. May God strengthen and guide you in all the days ahead. Kindly, Sandi Hammerstrom Oliverio I remember giving him a painting I did of a sailboat as he expressed a love of sailing.

LIFE! IS GOOD! This is the creed of the Eternal Optimist. John was the self-proclaimed luckiest guy in the world. But we all know that good people make their own good luck. John was the devoted and loving soulmate for my sister Rosemary. John was a proud and loving father and grandfather. ... Gretchen, Eric, John, Jennifer, Greg. Our families know the pain of losing a parent to cancer when they were in the prime of their life. But I recall what I was told after the death of our Dad about those whose lives are cut too short. They are the LIGHTS who burn the brightest, who shine the fullest, and in that intensity, they are the ones who burn out first but who will be remembered for their intense glow of life. We will always remember John and his big, bright, welcoming smile. And his Eternal Optimism. GODSPEED JOHN BLASE! Life - IS - good.

Rosemary, We will miss seeing that smile that entered a room 30 seconds before John did. We will miss his bright colors streaking past our window on his bike. But we are glad that he is finished with pain and suffering and has moved on to better things. And we want you to know that we are here for you at any time of day or night. Knock on the door. Call. Bring your paints over to the dining room table. Mel and Sherry

Dear Rose, You and your family have been in our thoughts during this long journey of John's. We hope you will find comfort in your friends and family and continue your active life. We've long said that maybe someday we'll get a tandem for our later years and be like the Blases; a model of togetherness, especially on the bike. That is how we will always picture you two; on that bike together. love, Pam and Bob Murray

Uncle John, You have shared your heart with all of us. You were always there for our important life events with a generous, loving and supportive spirit. Thank you. I cherish the time that I was able to meet up with you and Aunt Rose in Rome, Italy. Thanks for making the effort to make that memory. What a treat that was. I too often picture you and Aunt Rose on the tandem bike. It's all about living life to the fullest and I'm glad that you did. You always gave it your all in every situation. They say if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. I'm proud that you stood for what you believed in. What a wonderful character trait. In the great words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, It is not Length of Life, but Depth of Life. With much love to you, Aunt Rose, Gretchen, John Jr., Greg and family, Noelle
