I'm sorry Lee went. I'm glad to have been his friend for fifty years or so. I will miss him, his jokes, his politics, his friendship n concern. I know he was ready to go but I still will miss Lee!

I came to UM in 1969. The math department was much smaller then, and Lee and his colleague Ethel Rathbun were always considered part of the family. Lee was always helpful. For example, when I co-organized a conference in 1988, Lee worked long hours to ensure its success.

I joined the University of Michigan as a Professor of Mathematics in Jan 1992. I had the pleasure of knowing Lee from that time. I always enjoyed talking to him. He was very helpful in all administrative matters, and also in preparing National Science Foundation grant-applications. I talked to him last year over phone and had planned to meet him sometime in summer. He will be greatly missed by me and my colleagues. My condolences to all his family members and friends.

I came to UM in 1992 as an Associate Professor of Mathematics and director of the Math Lab, our tutoring service. Lee helped me out in figuring out how to navigate the department and university, and was always available as a volunteer in the Math Lab due to his love of students. It is more than appropriate that the Lee Zukowski Award for the best Math Lab tutor has been named after him. I will miss him greatly.
