Obituary of Leon Paul Zukowski
Leon Paul Zukowski was born November 20, 1934 to the late Elizabeth Kathleen Dobosz and the late Leo Francis Zukowski in Highland Park, Michigan. He was also preceded in death by his brother David Carleton in January 1997. Lee died March 26, 2018. He is survived by his two brothers Alphonse Gilbert and Christopher Charles. Lee grew up in Hamtramck, Michigan graduating from St. Florian High School in June 1952 and from the University of Detroit in June 1956. He spent academic year 1956-57 on a Fulbright scholarship at George August Universitaet in Goettingen, Germany and became a research/teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota. During the summers of 1957 and 1958 he was a research assistant at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. He was an instructor in Mathematics and Physics at the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota from 1958 to 1960 receiving his MS in 1963 from the University of Minnesota. Lee joined the Mathematics Dept. at the University of Michigan as an administrative assistant in 1967 and remained in the department until his retirement on July 14, 1998. Cremation via the Michigan Cremation Society has been arranged. There is no visitation nor memorial service. Contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood or the American Civil Liberties Union.
