Sorry to see this! Rick was our neigbor Helene and Frank's son when I was growing up - he was 16 years older than me and I was about 8-10 so he was in his 20's. I just remember him helping me fish when he would come home and visit. I just remember him as a fun guy that wanted to show his neigbor kids fun things to do outside, and show us how to tie a hook and find worms under rocks.
Thanks for being a great neighbor and RIP, Rick!

I first met Rick as a 28 year old patient in 1986. He was working and living in Union Lake. I was his first RPE that didn't include surgery according to him. I helped him install trim in his Haggerty office, his first on his own and we talked about his passion for deep sea fishing and our shared interest in water skiing among other endeavors. He crushed me in racquetball after I accepted his invitation to play unaware of his prowess.
My two daughters became patients in 2000 and 2006. He married Lindy on my birthday and his eyes lit up whenever he talked about her and his family. He proudly introduced me to his daughter during a visit to his home in Farmington Hills. I never met his second child. Wow time flies!
The last time I saw Rick, in his 14 mile Rd. office, he laughed and suggested I replace my retainer after I told him I'd worn it for decades. His smile and engaging personality never changed. My oldest daughter informed me he'd gone home after our Thanksgiving meal last night. We'd lost touch over time but his impact on me and my family will forever be felt and seen in our memories and our smiles!
Until we meet again Dr. Scavo!

I am honored to live with perfect teeth knowing Dr. Scavo put his full effort into everything he did. He was always nice to me during the years I met with him and we had our good share of personal stories. He inspires me to become a great physician, and most of all a genuine human being. Rest In Peace, Dr. Scavo.

Rick Scavo was a kind and generous man. We had so much fun racing horses with him. He diagnosed our son’s breathing problems and corrected it with orthodontics. We will always treasure his friendship and all our fun times with him. We love and miss him.

When I look back at the 33 years of a great friendship, now that’s it’s gone so suddenly, I grasp for the proper words to honor his past. Above all his true generosity stands out high above others. Whether it in dinners, gifts, trinkets or dry roasters, coffee makers or stock information, it was from his heart. His skills with his hands, made him one of the best Orthodontist around. He treated my family (all five) which resulted in perfect results. I enjoyed all of the dinners, lunches that he brought together, in the last minute or from the day before. We talked multiple times during the week or once a month but I always felt his presence, his quick wit, sense of humor would result in deep laughter where you start to cough because it was so funny. He was a great fisherman. We went to Cabo and up to Gods lake in Manitoba CA. He would make sure that the Indian guide would have a new set of fishing boots, for the following season. We never did make it back. His hip and heart began to fail so that he could go back to those days. I could go on and on about shooting guns and arrows, and the Thunder Fest on the Detroit River. It’s time for me to say goodbye. Rick I love you like a brother, and some day I will join you in Heaven. You pal for ever Rich
