My Grandpa, that I love…I miss you dearly. I’ll see you one day. I know you’re having a blast in heaven. I’m sure you’re drinking all your box wines, eating Peppermint Patties and reading your endless books.

Uncle Edward I remember when Darren and I first came to relocate in Michigan, you welcomed us with love and warmth, shared the history of Detroit and provided us with areas we might want to move to.
Uncle Edward, I loved the stories you shared with me about my dad, Antar Williams and you growing up in Brooklyn. I appreciate you looking out for me, especially in California after we laid my dad to rest.
Uncle Edward and Aunt Pat you both have always been more like Grandparents than an Uncle/Aunt to Kimiko and Yumiko, they've always said this and we feel the same way, so much love shown to us always. We will miss you dearly, I will miss you sharing so much knowledge, history and stories. Always be loving you and forever missing you Uncle Edward.

REMEMBER when…over the years with Dad. No timeline, but certainly time together – from my Eyes.
Remember when, going to see the LIONS, Pistons & Tiger games over the years. Often joined by Mr. Glasker, Albert Wilder, two of Dad’s best friends, and of course JJ and Toddy (Aaron you were too young). He dearly missed them over the years (emotional moment)
Remember when, our 1st game at the Silverdome. Side note- we caught the bus; Dad did not Drive as you all know.
Remember when, Dad, Darryl and I walking to the park carrying our gloves, bat, baseball and wearing our ball caps to play ball. Just the three of us. Darryl was probably seven and I was four. I remember that so clearly – like it was yesterday. Sorry Gwen, you were not around yet.
Remember when, during my high school years I would catch the bus with Dad. We spent many mornings after transferring to the Warren bus and he would buy his paper. We would break down the Sports section together. Later, when WEST became dominant in football, we could not wait to see what the Sports section had to say! No social media in the 80’s…lol
Remember when, after another WIN on Friday night we started a tradition of buying Buddy’s Pizza from 6 Mile and Conant. We would discuss every angle of the football game that night at home. We would wait for the 11o’clock news to hear the sport scores. Great memories!
Remember when, Dad had that talk with me about next level Division I Football. I did not make the cut, one of the first times when I had to have that conversation about LIFE. Life was not only about football. I had to make my own trails even if that meant that football was not the #1 priority. Life lessons. Good talk! I carry that with me today. Prioritize what is important!
Remember when, our walks it seemed like every day to Jerry’s Party store on Woodward. It was me & Dad primarily, but Darryl would come from time to time. Gwen you weren’t old enough. We played a game of counting how many steps! There was never a winner, but just something we would do and this went on for years.
Remember when, Dad coached the Richton Raiders, our baseball team on the block. Darryl and I had to earn playing time and that was not easy. I was always the youngster on the team, and everyone was older than me by 3 to 5 years. I was last on the bench to play. LIFE Lessons. Later as I got older, I had my turn to Lead and Lead I did! Great years playing under Dad as Coach. Thanks to Stanley Gaines Asst. Coach!
Remember when, one Saturday morning one of the kids from the Raiders came running into our house and closely behind him was the police. Proud moment… Dad handled the matter calmly and professionally. He walked the police outside, and they left, and we would bring the young man to the station later to clear matters up. WOW, I remember when!
Remember when, Gwen was ready to leave for College at Western Michigan and the car was packed up! Mom said to me where is your father? I started up the stairs with mom right behind me saying along the way, “Eddie we need to GO”. I opened the door and sitting on the side of the bed was Dad. He looked at us with tears in his eyes and his only words were “Baby girl is leaving home today”. Another great moment- (Emotional)
Remember when……….
Remember when………..
Thank you Dad for all the great memories and the life lessons that we learned along the way!
We will carry the Torch from here, the foundation has been laid.
Love Anthony

This is Lori Wilson Wilder I can remember plenty of times when our family would get together and have those block parties, barbecues, playing cards on the porch. My mother Lynn and my dad Elbert, the Allen family and many more we would have fun the mobile pool that came on the block, so much fun on that Richton block. I will always cherish those memories we had a ball and don't forget we went to cedar point y'all that was a ball. Thank you Mia family for being part of my childhood memories.

To live a full life is to live one without regrets.
“Rebecca Sampson”
This was my Dad’s life. One where he touched the lives of so many by being that good neighbor, a second father for many, a community leader who gave back to his adopted Highland park,a loving uncle to all his nieces and nephews and most importantly a loving Father and Grandfather. Mom will miss you, but we will take good care of your treasure!
I’m so Glad to have shared a life with you and thank you for all the love and guidance you gave to me. My heart broke in losing you…. But my Heart will grow stronger in keeping your Memory and Legacy Alive
Love you Dad!
Darryl

Besides my Uncle Mike, and childhood friend, you were the only other person who called me Suzy. For me when you called me Suzy, it was a term of endearment, bringing me back to my childhood which gave me such joy. Rest in heavenly peace❤️

A man ! They don't make men like Mr. Mia anymore. My honor to know him, he shared his family with me, educated me. He wasn't my Father, but he was very " Fartherly" to me.

Growing up Mr. Mia was instrumental in teaching so many of us neighbor hood kids the lessons of life, weather it was through sports, a Sunday morning church service or a casual conversation in passing. We loss ONE OF THE GREAT ONES. Take your rest for a job well done. Thank you Coach and the Mia family for all the lessons learned. Gone but never forgotten.

I will forever cherish the times we shared visiting with you and the family. You always welcomed us into your home when we popped by for visits on college breaks and after we began our family. The Mia family table was where we spent many visits laughing, discussing politics, life and let’s us not forget eating delicious meals! I’ll always remember your smile, your unique voice, the advice you offered and will remain forever grateful for the time we shared.

I’m really lost for words but find myself typing this message. I thought I would be ready for the day I got the news. Honestly not as fitting as my tears flow uncontrollably. I feel at peace but so conflicted of the time I’ve missed. You’re a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and fearless man. Thank you for showing me what true love is through sickness and in health. Rest in Heaven Papa.

To my superhero…
I think the hardest thing was knowing this day was coming soon and I couldn’t prepare myself enough. This a dark time for me I hate you had to leave but you got called home today. I wish I could have walked you to them gates and we share a couple laughs one more time but I want to say thank you. I know you don’t want any pity or for anybody to feel sad that you are gone. But this one hurt, you were the embodiment of being a good man. You took care of your family for 89 years and never wanted recognition for anything. I remember all the lessons you taught me growing up. I remember you teaching me how to throw a pitch. I remember you telling me when I was a kid when you walk in a room you make them respect you. I remember sitting on them stairs reading books and you taught me I can’t just read a book by looking at the pictures. I remember you telling me to use the stiff arm and always run towards daylight. I remember just coming by the house to sit and watch movies with you. I remember how proud you were of me that I got to follow my dream, I was happy that you got to see me go all the way. So many good memories and so many good times. These last couple of years weren’t good to you but you faced it head on. Never ran from it and you approached life with the same attitude I hope to continue to do the same. I’m glad you finally get a chance to rest, you deserve it. Keep watch over us up there and save a seat for me gangsta we will see each other again. I’m sure they got York mints, books, and some wine for you up there so I know you turnt. Take a bow gramps, you did one hell of a job. I love you always and forever !
Rest up
