Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Bentson
Mary E. Bentson
On October 6, 1933 an angel named Mary was delivered to Frank and Elizabeth DeMeere in Detroit Michigan. Mary grew up on the East side of Detroit with her sister Janette and twin sisters Donna and Nina.
She met the love of her life, William Gordon Bentson, while ironing sheets for the family’s Rooming House in Detroit. Gordon, (as she affectionately called him), became her best friend. For the handsome WWII Veteran, it was love at first sight. He asked her out to the movies and she quickly replied, “I’m sorry, you must be mistaken, I am only 14 and I can’t date you.” So, he patiently waited for four years!
They married on her 18th birthday and two years later, started their family of six. Their children William, James, Mary, Ann, Christopher and Catherine are a testimony to their love and devotion. Furthermore, their eternal love and energy is passed on to their many wonderful grandchildren.
.
Mary lived a long and fulfilled life, and returned to her home in Heaven on July 22, 2023 at 9:20PM. Rather that weep for her, Mary wants loved ones to rejoice in her life and their time with her.
As Clare Harner wrote:
Do not stand By my grave, and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep––
I am the thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints in snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain.
As you awake with morning’s hush, I am the swift, up-flinging rush Of Quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the day transcending night.
Do not stand By my grave, and cry––I am not there, I did not die.
Mary would wish for you to hold her in your heart and know that she will always be with you while you walk this Earth. She would say to you,
“See you in heaven!”
