After almost fifty years of friendship, we cannot think of Hilde without smiling or, more often, laughing out loud. When George, a high school math teacher, applied for a part-time job at the Bottle Shoppe, one of the first questions Hilde asked him was, Can you make change That was the beginning of many wonderful times together. I remember fun-loving Hilde climbing our apricot tree, walking around her yard carrying her coffee cup -- of Scotch, playing cards to win. Ben and Hilde loved good food, dining out in downtown Detroit every Friday night. But they also enjoyed fixing gourmet dinners, inviting our family there many times. All five of us spent time with them in Sun City, then George and I made return trips through the years, every trip filled with fun and laughter. Later, when she was back in Michigan, we enjoyed spending afternoons with her, having lunch at her favorite Olive Garden. Hilde was never afraid to speak her mind -- and she did. She had spirit, spunk, a zest for life and a heart of gold. Our world is lesser without Hilde in it. She is deeply missed.

She was a hell of a broad and I miss her. Let's start with the first day I met her. I was hot on the shuttle from the airport and a little stressed and it was my first time in AZ. As the shuttle pulled up in front of her house, here comes this woman running down the driveway with an ice cold, long neck Miller High Life beer in her hand. She said to me Hello Tom, welcome to AZ. I looked over at Janet Ann and said, I love this woman, your Aunt Hilde. I visited her many times in AZ and being as we are both Capricorns once in a while we butted heads. But most of the time we laughed together, ate together and played cards together. Also, the first time I saw the Grand Canyon was because she took us there on a road trip. She was sweet, very feisty, held her guns and used them quite well. I enjoyed the time I spent with her and I will forever miss her. God rest your soul and while you're up there send down a long rope ladder for me to use. All my love, Tom C. Mazurek!

Whenever I spoke with Aunt Hilde, I was always AMAZED at her energy, and life filled with activity. I can only hope to be able to imitate her spunk. I'm sure she is already leading classes in swimming, dance and Tai Chi in Heaven. God Bless.

Hilde (or Mrs. Ben, as I called her as a child) was one for the ages. She and Mr. Ben were part of our family from the time I was a toddler. My dad worked for them at the Bottle Shoppe. Those were great times and a great and long-lasting friendship grew between us all. I still remember the late nights watching them all playing cards and listening to Hilde howl and cackle with laughter. It was an infectious laugh, for sure. Always one for fun, but never shy to let you know when it was time to be serious. I love her for all she taught me and I'm going to miss her, dearly.

Rich and I visited Aunt Hilde in Sun City many years ago. Though I did not know her well, my memory is of a welcoming woman with lots of energy and spunk. Years later she showed her generosity and interest in family through our two sons, Jeff and Ken. Coincidental that her service will take place in a church with the name St. Kenneth. Our son Jeff talked to Aunt Hilde as he researched family history. His contact with her was so positive that he tried to figure a way to come from Boston for the service. Quite a lady.

Heaven has been blessed with a very special Angel. Aunt Hilde was a very spunky, sassy, stong, loving life and not letting anything stopped her from doing what she loved to do.. kind of woman. All that she taught me about life, the love of God and family will live in my heart to pass on to others. I often would tell Aunt Hilde I want to be just like you when I'm 94 then she would say to me, and I know you will !!! I was truly blessed to have Aunt Hilde in my life and her memory with be bright with her love, I Love and Miss You Aunt Hilde XOXOPerhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our dear ones shines down to let us know they are with us. Now it's time to journey on, so let your faith be strong, for I am in a better place..I'm home where I belong.Happy now are the dead who die in the Lord, Rv 1413

A lovely lady who I corresponded with following the death of her son Bernard whom I knew well. She always exchanged wonderful Christmas letters with me here in the UK and took an interest in my family and all we were doing. She loved to see pictures of the family and of our garden. I shall miss her.

I lost a piece of my heart the day I lost Aunt Hilde. I thank God everyday for the memories I have of my dear aunt and for the time she graciously shared the solace of warm memories; stories of her childhood, her life, marriage, stories of my father (her brother) Kurt Karl and her many friends and travels. She was a woman who had a great wit and sense of humor and she loved getting one over on you! Being a wife and mother was her greatest joy in life. Even though she lost both her husband, Bernard in 1992 and her son, Bernard (Ben) Jr. in 1995, she continued on with an active and productive life. Living in Sun City, AZ. Aunt Hilde cultivated many friends, volunteered, danced, and was always active in her community Rec Center. She loved her home and friends, too many to list, and they loved her (even realizing that you do it her way). Her spirit was one of the strongest I've known. She prayed that she would never go into a nursing home and that she would not go totally blind (she had severe macular degeneration) and God in his grace and mercy granted her both. I will miss you Beep Beep and will pray that your soul and the soul of your dearly departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
