Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Davis

Joan Elizabeth (Macadaeg) Davis On Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020 in Ann Arbor Michigan, Joan Elizabeth (Macadaeg) Davis, loving wife and mother of three, passed on to eternal life at age 85. Joan was born October 11, 1934, in Pontiac, Michigan. Joan graduated from Pontiac High School in 1951 and graduated from Michigan State Normal College, now Eastern Michigan University, in 1954. Joan met Glenn Davis at Michigan State Normal College and was married on July 17th, 1954, culminating in 65 years of marriage. Joan lived passionately, had an insatiable zest for life and was a life-long learner. She is best remembered as a trail-blazing teacher, a student of the human soul and spirit, and a spiritual mentor. Joan enjoyed a prolific 35-year teaching career. She served in several positions, initiating new and innovative teaching methods, which resulted in numerous awards for her pioneering work. Joan taught for several years at Gallimore Elementary, then Smith Elementary, and finally Central Middle School, all located in Plymouth, Michigan. Joan loved to teach children and mentor student teachers to achieve their best results and always enjoy learning. Others often remarked at her life as the "eternal teacher". Joan was an adept student of the human soul and spirit. She had a spiritual, Christian life where she began a clown ministry in 1983 as the character Rainbow and performed at several local Churches, memorial services and major events. She performed in complete silence (mime) with the message of reconciliation and love for all, the theme for Rainbows purpose. Joan also loved to help others; no matter where they came from. Much of her life, she and her husband, Glenn, were actively engaged in volunteer work, serving at the Anglican Church Alpha House and several homeless soup kitchens as well. As a spiritual mentor, Joan also attained the position as a Spiritual Director, leading and helping others in their spiritual walks in life, sorting out the myriad of human issues all people face. For many years, she used the Enneagram personality model to help others learn their spiritual strengths and weakness, which resulted in her students learning to be more aware and productive through out all aspects of their lives. Joan was preceded in death by her father Anastacio Macadeag and her mother, Augusta May Hosey. She is survived by her husband Glenn Davis, 86 from Alpena, Michigan, her brothers Ron (Sandy) and Eddie (Marilyn) and her three children, Ann Schiefer (Bob), Greg (Mary) and Judy Krieg (Kevin). She is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be to the Ann Arbor Alpha House www.alphahouse-ihn.org .
