On two weeks active duty at NAS Grosse Ile, George insisted he take my night duty so I could be home with my very pregnant wife. Early the next morning we had another son. Another time we were flying in an S2F from New Orleans to Atlanta on a very dark night. Suddenly the plane started to dive, and I was unable to get to straight and level until I realized George was bending down to retrieve his pencil off the floor of the cockpit not knowing that his left hand was pushing down the trim tab lever on the steering wheel.
